Women’s Rights and Repro Justice
Reproductive Justice organizing has been a huge part of my work in the last ten years. For me, it started with sex education. I remember being in the 8th grade and taking my very first health class. CCSD had a curriculum that may have been more in-depth than other districts in the state, yet when a student brought up LGBTQ people in regards to the content we were learning, my teacher promptly stated “Yes, gay people exist but we are going to move on.” In that moment, I knew my school was a place I could be seen but not heard, tolerated but not included. It prompted me to become an advocate in high school, creating and designing inclusive health lessons as a thesis project. My freshman year of college, I continued this type of work as a “peer health educator.” Then, starting my sophomore year at UNLV, I joined the national organization Advocates for Youth as the co-lead of their Nevada Youth Activist Alliance, which is a grassroots project that organizes youth 14-24 on local repro justice campaigns. Our most recent campaign tied the principles of reproductive justice and gun violence prevention together as we advocated for the passage of SB156, the Gun Safety Act, during the 2025 legislative session.
This work is core to my political identity. Reproductive justice is for EVERYONE. Feminism is for EVERYONE. I have been so lucky to have so many amazing women love and protect me throughout my life. In Carson City, I will seek every opportunity to return the favor.
Nevada Youth Activist Alliance Event - 2024
I learned so much during my role as NVYAA co-lead. Here, we hosted a community documentary screening of PLAN C, which covered the organization PLAN C and their work connecting people with medication abortion.
Nevada ERA Rally for Yes on Q1 - 2022
Also during my time with NVYAA, we came out to support the ERA amendment.
Policy Priorities:
Passing inclusive and comprehensive Sex-Ed Standards - Sex Ed isn’t about indoctrination or encouraging students to have sex. It’s about knowledge, safety, and preventing public health crises. As a queer student in Nevada, I was required to learn about HIV but not about HIV prevention drugs and how to access them. My orientation was explicitly banned from the classroom, and my preparation for adult life was hindered because of that. Many can say the same about the statewide health standards lacking topics like intimate partner violence or online grooming prevention. We need a curriculum that serves students, not political agendas.
From the 83rd Legislative Session →SB 217: This bill, sponsored by Senator Canizarro, would protect infertility treatment and fertility preservation treatment and mandate coverage. Governor Lombardo vetoed this bill, and it should be a priority to bring this bill back.
From the 83rd Legislative Session →AB 101: This bill, sponsored by assembly member Orentlicher, would preempt local jurisdictions from creating barriers to abortion or other reproductive healthcare and prevent false information in providing care.
From the 83rd Legislative Session →AB 209: This bill, sponsored by assembly member Orentlicher, would grant immunity from criminal prosecution for prostitution-related offenses to individuals who report or witness serious violent crimes while engaged in prostitution.
